Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 🇭🇺

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship is a fully-funded opportunity for Pakistani students to study in Hungary.
Each year, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan nominates 400 applicants for the main list.
 In addition to these, HEC also prepares a waiting list. Although it is commonly assumed that each main-list candidate has a corresponding waiting-list applicant, the exact number of waiting-list nominations is known only to HEC.

📊 Number of Nominations (Breakdown of the 400 Main List)

· 200 seats – Bachelor’s programs

· 100 seats – Master’s programs

· 30 seats – PhD programs

· 70 seats – One-Tier Master (OTM) programs

Fields included: 20 – Medicine, 10 – Dentistry, 40 – Other fields including: 1. Veterinary Medicine 2. Pharmacy 3. Architecture 4. Painting 5. Graphic Arts 6. Sculpting.

🔄 Application Procedure

The application process consists of two main stages:

1. Sending Partner (HEC): The Higher Education Commission (HEC) reviews applications, selects the most suitable candidates, and forwards the nomination list to the Tempus Public Foundation, the organization responsible for managing the program.

2. Hungarian Universities: Universities conduct entrance exams or interviews to assess applicants. Based on these results, the universities issue conditional acceptances.

3. Final Evaluation: The Tempus Public Foundation evaluates each candidate’s overall profile and confirms the award of the scholarship.

⚖️ Federal Quota System

Nominations are not based solely on the number of seats per degree level; they are also distributed according to Pakistan’s federal quota system, which allocates a percentage of seats to each region. The quota breakdown is:

· Merit: 7.5%

· Punjab: 50%

· Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK): 11.5%

· Sindh-Rural: 11.4%

· Sindh-Urban: 7.6%

· Balochistan: 6%

· FATA / Gilgit-Baltistan: 4%

· Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK): 2%

How the Quota Works? (Example: Bachelor’s Seats)

Bachelor’s programs have 200 total seats. These are allocated according to the federal quota. For example:

· Punjab: 50% × 200 = 100 seats

· KPK: 11.5% × 200 = 23 seats

· AJK: 2% × 200 = 4 seats

· Similarly for the remaining provinces/regions.

📅 Application Timeline

1. 15 January 2026, 2 pm (CET): Submitting application to TPF and to Sending Partner.

2. 28 February 2026: First selection point: technical check and nomination process.

3. Until 15 March 2026: Statement of the Supervisor (if required by the proposed Doctoral School). Submitting recommendation letter (for self-financed students only).

4. Middle of March – end of May 2026: Second selection point: Institutional admission procedure.

5. End of June to middle of July 2026: Notification about selection results.

6. July-August 2026: Visa application process.

7. Until 30 September 2026: Arrival in Hungary.

· Available Programs: This list is not fully updated and contains only a limited number of programs. In reality, you can apply for almost any program you want, and it will not cause any issue. Speaking from experience, even the program I am currently studying was not listed, yet I faced no problem. In short, nearly every major and field of study is available under the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship.

· Study Mode Warning: Please be extra cautious when selecting your preferred study programmes in the Stipendium Hungaricum online application system as most of the study programmes are offered as both full-degree and partial study programmes; therefore, those programmes appear twice. Please make sure that you select the programme marked with the study mode of your desire, because it is impossible to change the study mode after the application deadline.
